Concerned about young people falling prey to cyber crimes, such as deception, theft, and tampering with webpage, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories North (RCPO NTN) has joined hands with Police Community Relations Offices in conducting seminars on prevention of cyber crimes in primary and secondary schools since September last year.

RCPO NTN also held an Anti-Cyber Crime Comic and Slogan Design Competition for the schools and the Hong Kong Institute of Education in NTN Region between March and May 2012. RCPO NTN hopes that young people, through participation in the competition, would set their outlook for life and values and disseminate messages on prevention of cyber crimes to their peers.

Response to the competition was spontaneous, with a total of 6 300 entries received. From the entries, an adjudicating panel comprising the associate professor of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and representatives from youth centres, picked the winner, runners-up, and works of merit of the junior and senior categories.

Prizes were presented in the Auditorium of Tai Po Civic Centre on July 6, attracting a large gathering of guests, including NTN Regional Commander Chau Kwok-leung, the chairmen of the district fight crime committees in NTN and parent-teacher associations, school principals and teachers, representatives from non-government organisations, and District Commanders.

The presentation ceremony also featured a seminar on prevention of cyber crimes, conducted by officers of the NTN Regional Crime Unit, an exhibition of imitated drugs by Narcotics Bureau and performances by a school band and pop group.
