The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, accompanied by Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp 2012 at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village on August 8.

They officiated at the camp's launching ceremony and called on youngsters to help police combat crime and promote anti-drug messages. They also toured around the camp, watching JPC members participating in various activities, including tree climbing, rope course and war game with an anti-gambling theme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lai pointed out that both the overall crime rate and serious drug offences involving young people showed a declining trend with decreases of 13 per cent and 14 per cent respectively in the first six months of this year over the same period of last year.

He commended JPC for nurturing positive values among young people and equipped them with leadership skill and knowledge of police work so that they could join hands with police to fight crime. He hoped young people would spread anti-crime and anti-drug messages to their family members, friends and classmates.

Organised by Police Public Relations Branch, the annual summer camp, from August 7 to 10, aims to enhance JPC members' awareness of crimes and drug abuse, and to promote healthy lifestyles. These messages were disseminated to the 1,800 campers through seminars, game competitions and a variety of activities, including handicrafts as well as land and water sports activities.
