Sham Shui Po District (SSPODIST) held a closing and commendation ceremony at the City University of Hong Kong on July 7 to mark the successful conclusion of its "Stand by You Leadership Training Scheme 2011 - 2012." On hand to support the ceremony were about 400 guests, including scheme trainees, university student volunteers, police volunteers, school principals and teachers, and social workers. The "Stand by You Leadership Training Scheme" is a major initiative to raise the trainees' awareness of fighting crimes and drug abuse. The scheme ran throughout each academic year, starting from September, to enhance the trainees' leadership potential, resilience and confidence with various activities and the counselling and support of their volunteer helpers. Apart from providing participating schools with a platform for co-operation and other resources, including police volunteers and university student volunteers, visits to the Force and Correctional Services Department were also arranged for the trainees. The trainees would then share their experiences with classmates during school-based activities. Having run in Sham Shui Po District for the past four years, the scheme is well received by the schools in the district and its results are recognised and supported by the local community. Encouraged by this success, SSPODIST is expected to continue the scheme in a bid to prevent juvenile delinquency through training and dissemination of anti-crime messages to more trainees. ![]() |
