Prevention of complaints is always a main concern of the New Territories South (NTS) Region. Earlier this year, the NTS Regional Complaints Prevention Committee (RCPC) organised a competition "How to Respond to Public's Criticism". The competition featured nine different scenarios based on real life incidents covering Uniform Branch, Traffic and Crime duties. In each scenario, the public criticised police actions while contestants were required to give an appropriate response.

To seek active participation, the competition was held following a complaint prevention training session on training days so that Junior Police Officers would participate. The response was overwhelming and an adjudication panel comprising RCPC members selected 10 winning entries after considering the following criteria:

(1) Reply with a concise message;

(2) Showing care and respect;

(3) Explaining the action taken;

(4) Courtesy; and

(5) Enhancing Force image.

In a ceremony held on August 29, NTS Regional Commander Yu Mun-sang presented certificates to the winners. Overall, the competition has further promoted the complaints prevention culture within NTS Region.
