More DIT officers gain overseas exposure
Under the Overseas and Mainland Study Visit Programmes for District Investigation Team (DIT) officers organised by Crime Wing, another Force delegation comprising two Detective Inspectors (DIP), two Detective Sergeants and 10 Detective Police Constables (DPC) from different Districts, led by Chief Inspector Choi Chun-hoo, visited the Singapore Police Force (SPF) between August 13 and 16. The visit aimed at boosting the DIT officers' professionalism and broadening their overseas horizons in criminal investigation.
Upon arrival, the Assistant Director of the SPF Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Superintendent Lee Fook-wing, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and gave an overview on the structure and functions of his department. Delegation members then toured the CID Headquarters and met the elite from various CID branches, including Secret Society Branch, Forensic Management Branch, Specialised Crime Branch, Technology Crime Division and Unlicensed Money-lending Strike Force, during which members shared with their hosts experience of detective work and fighting crimes.
The delegation also had a very interesting visit to the newly established Casino Crime Investigation Branch, where they were briefed on casino-related crimes and related enforcement measures. In addition, they toured the Ang Mo Kio Police Division, which is the largest land division in SPF and has jurisdiction over one-third of the local population. The Deputy Head of the division's investigation branch, Deputy Superintendent Aileen Yap, introduced the structure of frontline investigation teams and spoke of the challenges of frontline investigations.
The delegation members have spoken highly of the outcome of the overseas visit.
DPC Chan Chi-fai commented: "The visit is an eye-opening experience for us and we had a good opportunity to share our experience of investigations with our Singapore counterparts. It was also very interesting to study how they deal with loan sharks and to compare their strategies with ours."
DIP Pun Siu-hun added: "The visit offered a precious opportunity for frontline DIT officers to share knowledge and experience with their overseas counterparts. Most importantly, the network established as a result of the visit would surely be conducive to our co-operation with the SPF in tackling transnational crimes."
