Police College held a workshop on Forensic Examination at the Police Officers' Club on October 9, drawing 34 detective officers at the ranks of Senior Inspector (SIP) to Senior Superintendent.

The speaker was Dr Sheilah Hamilton from the UK, an expert in the fields of forensic science and fire investigation, who enlightened the audience on the topics of forensic palynology, forensic radiology and fire investigation. Many of the participants found the topics useful and commented highly on Dr Hamilton's presentation.

The workshop was one of the trial runs of the Serious Crime Investigation Modules (SCIM), a new course developed by Police College's Detective Training Division to enhance the professionalism and skills of investigating serious and complex crimes by detective SIP and newly promoted Chief Inspectors and Superintendents who will undertake crime investigation duties.

The SCIM consists of six modules with each lasting one to three days, and covers Case Management (Module I), Medical and Psychological (Module II), Legal (Module III), Specialist (Module IV), Experience Sharing with Overseas Crime Managers (Module V) and Simulated Scenario-based Exercise (Module VI). Each module will be run once a year and a participant will be awarded a certificate after completing all the six modules.

Two more trial workshops will be run next month and in December and the formal roll out of the SCIM has been scheduled for the second quarter of next year.
