Earlier this year, Wong Tai Sin District (WTSDIST), with the co-operation by 15 elderly centres, recruited over 600 senior citizens as Elderly Fight Crime Ambassadors to assist in disseminating fight crime messages to the local community. In the first half of this year, the "ambassadors" took part in a host of crime prevention activities to spread the messages to their families, friends and neighbours, including crime prevention talks and distribution of fight crime publicity leaflets. Recently, WTSDIST held a roadshow at the Lok Fu Plaza to introduce its duties and work in a bid to boost police-community communication and co-operation. That day, 18 Elderly Fight Crime Ambassadors from the Kowloon City Baptist Church Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and the Ho Ping Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens distributed publicity leaflets to the public, along with District Councillor, Mr Chan Wai-kwan, Chairperson of the Lok Fu Merchants' Association, Ms Ma Lai-mei, and Junior Police Call volunteers. The Wong Tai Sin Elderly Fight Crime Ambassador Scheme has been running for six years with the big support by the elderly, social workers and local organisations, all of whom see the scheme as a good initiative to enlist community support for preventing crimes. ![]() |
