Among those honouring the
fallen officers at the ceremony were Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung,
Senior Directorate Group members, officers at Assistant Commissioner
rank and their auxiliary and civilian equivalents, as well as
representatives from Major Police and Auxiliary Police Formations.
Auxiliary Police Commandant Yiu Yeung-lung was also in attendance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tsang said the ceremony was a fitting
tribute to the dedication and fortitude of all members of staff who
have served with the Force over the past 168 years.
"Today we honour the memory of those who, whilst performing their sworn
duty, have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in the
service of the people of Hong Kong. Time and time again we police
officers confront danger and continually face the uncertainty of
whether our duty to protect and serve will place us in harm's way. To
ensure our community can live in a safe and stable society, we will
never flinch from this challenge, " Mr Tsang added.
"On this occasion we are also joined by members of the Hong Kong Police
Old Comrades Association, the Royal Hong Kong Police Association and
other former members of the Hong Kong Police Force. Like the many
officers who came before them, they represent the finest traditions of
service to the community for which the Force is both famed and
justifiably proud - traditions which they passed on to the next
generation of officers," Mr Tsang concluded.
After the speech, the Police bugler sounded the "Last Post" to signal a
two-minute silence, after which Mr Tsang laid the Force wreath,
followed by the Auxiliary Police Commandant with the Auxiliary Force
wreath.
