New Territories South (NTS) Region formed an Informer Handling Cadre in 2010 to support officers in handling informers. The cadre comprises crime officers who have a wealth of the relevant knowledge and experience. To boost cadre members' professionalism, Crime NTS held an Informer Handling Experience Sharing Session at NTS Regional Headquarters on September 27 for over 40 officers.

NTS Superintendent Crime (Operations) Hui Kwai-sang led discussion and shared his experience of handling informers whilst working in the Criminal Intelligence Bureau. He emphasised the importance of informer handling for the criminal intelligence process, and encouraged the audience to actively gather intelligence from informers.

After the talk, the audience participated in case studies and discussions related to the informer-handling process, guided by facilitators experienced in informer-handling, who shared their experience and offered advice on avoiding the pitfalls in informer-handling.

In the views of a participant, Detective Police Constable Chan Chun-kau, the experience sharing session allowed officers to exchange ideas and knowledge through interactive discussion and sharing, thereby improving their informer-handling skills and tactics, and raising their professionalism.
