A joint effort was made to promote pedestrian and tram safety when the Road Safety Team of Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI), Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong and Island Region) (RSP HK & I) and Hong Kong Tramways held the Tram Safety Campaign Opening Ceremony 2012 at Belcher Bay Park, Western District, on October 19.

Officiating at the ceremony were T HKI Senior Superintendent (SSP) Chan Fung-hau, Senior Assistant Commissioner of RSP (HK & I), Mr Leung Ka-keung, and the Managing Director of Hong Kong Tramways, Mr Tsang Wing-hang.

Speaking at the ceremony, SSP Chan pointed out that so far this year tram-related traffic accidents had dropped by one-third compared with the same period last year.

Mr Tsang also pointed out that trams' speeding and braking systems had been advanced and they are no longer "slow-moving". Therefore, he advised the public to remain more alert while using the roads.

After the kick-off ceremony, the officiating guests and the Elderly Road Safety Team of RSP (HK & I) boarded two trams decorated for publicising road safety messages for Statue Square, Central, to hand out copies of a publicity leaflet to the general public. These two trams will continue to disseminate road safety messages during their daily services.

Another successful joint effort in pedestrian and tram safety
