The Chief Executive, Mr C Y
Leung, and Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung presided over at the CE's Night
and the CP's Night as guests of honour respectively. Together with
hundreds of guests, they watched a dazzling display of music, action
and skill, all for the benefit of charity.
Jointly presented by the Force and the Community Chest of Hong Kong,
the Police Night was staged to raise funds for the needy and to
demonstrate Force's responsibility and commitment to engage and serve
the community.
In each evening show, the college campus was transformed into a
brilliantly lit stage filled with sound, light and action. The audience
was treated to a 70-minute programme of golden melodies by Police Band
and Auxiliary Police Band, and exciting displays by Police Dog Unit,
the elite counter-terrorist Special Duties Unit, and Police Tactical
Unit.
A choir of non-ethnic Chinese children from the Yaumati Kaifong
Association School appeared in national dress to present a medley of
songs and dances, and new police recruits showcased their discipline
and marching skills in a display of silent drill.
After the evening shows, Mr Leung met the guests at a gala dinner while
Mr Tsang hosted a reception to thank supporters of the Police Night,
including Chairmen and members of District Fight Crime Committees,
Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents, major donors of the Police
Welfare Fund and Committee Members of the Community Chest.
Prior to the two Police Night evening shows, some 900 members of
underprivileged groups, children and helpers from the Children's Cancer
Foundation, police officers injured on duty and their families and
families of Force members participating in the shows were invited to
attend a special Preview Night on November 22.
The Police Night, fully sponsored by the Bank of China Charitable
Foundation, raised nearly $4 million for the Community Chest.
