Since New Territories North (NTN) Region mapped out a "Comprehensive Intelligence Gathering Strategy" in May last year, Deputy Regional Commander So Kam-sing has been meeting regularly with District Deputy Commanders and Senior Superintendents from Regional Headquarters units to review the strategy, share intelligence gathering initiatives and plan the way forward. As another initiative, Crime NTN has held a two-day Advanced Informer Handling Workshop for 40 officers in a bid to beef up the professionalism of its Informer Handling Cadre and frontline crime officers. At the workshop, seasoned officers from Criminal Intelligence Bureau gave a presentation on handling informers, covering the skills of recruitment and gathering intelligence from informers. Practice sessions were arranged for officers to experience the process of recruiting informers and the ways to solve the problems they might encounter during the process. Speaking at the closing of the workshop, Mr So stressed the importance of intelligence gathering in policing and reminded the audience of the challenges of intelligence gathering. For strengthening the Force's intelligence gathering network, he encouraged Cadre members to apply the skills and knowledge they had learned from the workshop and recruit more informers. |
