The International Police Association (IPA) held the 20th World Congress between September 4 and 9 in the coastal city of Eilat in Israel. Two members of the Hong Kong Section of IPA, Senior Inspector Bruce Hung and Station Sergeant Stanley Chan, attended the congress alongside the delegates from 60 countries to discuss the future developments of IPA and elect members of the Permanent Executive Bureau. The IPA International President and the Mayor of Eilat declared the congress open, during which the Hong Kong delegates exchanged views on IPA experience and made new friends from many countries. After the congress, 12 members of IPA (Hong Kong Section) also joined a Friendship Week and a tour organised by IPA (Israel Section). Station Sergeant Chan has been an IPA member for almost 10 years and it was the second time he has attended the IPA World Congress. "IPA is an NGO with Consultative (Special) Status in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. IPA's objective is to promote friendship amongst its members. Each year, many IPA sections host different cultural events for IPA members. In IPA, I've many opportunities to meet police officers from different countries like Russia, Australia, Israel, Germany and the UK. If Force members want to join IPA, visit our website www.ipa-hksar.com," he said. ![]() |
