Inspector Shum Lap-chi, the officer in charge of the Physical Training and First Aid Unit of Police College, recently led a party of physical training instructors in a visit to the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. University professors not only gave a lecture in Sports Science and Physical Education to the instructors, but also conducted several precise exercise tests on the instructors, which included testing individual maximal oxygen uptake with treadmill and air analyzer; under water weighing to calculate the proportion of body fat; and taking blood samples to evaluate the speed of physical recovery. All these are the most scientific test methods and can evaluate personal fitness more effectively, compared with the score-type test. The physical training instructors from the Foundation Training Centre are equipped with professional knowledge of physical fitness and have extensive experience in delivering physical training. Through continuous education and studies, they help police recruits enhance physical fitness so that they would discharge duties more effectively and lead a healthy lifestyle. The visit to the university not only broadened their horizons, but also showed them how to apply sports science in their physical training. ![]() |
