Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ) provided a two-round Road Safety Planning, Auditing and CasE-based (Road SPACE) Training from November 5 to 16 in Police Officers' Club in a bid to equip officers for carrying out traffic and road management duties and to enhance road safety. At the invitation of TBHQ, two experienced experts from the UK BlueKnight, Mr Graham Skinner and Mr Saul Jeavons, conducted the five-day training for 43 frontline officers. Also attending the training were a Superintendent from the Singapore Police Force, a Senior Engineer from the Singapore's Land Transportation Authority and two Chief Inspectors from the Macao Public Security Police Force. They provided valuable overseas input in discussions. The training course covered many topics such as road safety strategies, concepts and application of Road Safety Audit, Road Safety Audit Planning for New Roads and New Township, and Road Safety Auditing for Vulnerable Road Users including cyclists. All participants passed an examination at the end of the course and were presented with a Certificate of Achievement by Assistant Commissioner (Support) Chiu Wai-yin and Chief Superintendent (Traffic) Steve Verralls. Speaking at the opening of the course, Head of the Traffic Management and Prosecutions Bureau at TBHQ, Senior Superintendent Cheng Tak-ming, pointed out that the Force recognised the need to provide more professional training to traffic officers, not just for supporting them but also attracting more officers to join traffic units. At the closing ceremony, Mr Cheong Kin Ian from the Macao Public Security Police Force said the course was very useful and practical in that some real traffic accident blackspots were adopted for case studies. Together with other participants, he looks forward to applying in their jobs what they have learned from the training. ![]() |
