NTN Regional Headquarters boast a Green Roof |

The 12-storey New Territories North (NTN) Regional Headquarters now boost a Green Roof, thanks to the efforts of a Green Roof Working Group. Promoting green culture, NTN Region formed the working group in an effort to make officers more aware of environmental protection, provide an ideal working environment by beautifying the roof, and save energy by reducing the cooling load and extending the life span of roofing materials. Opened by NTN Regional Commander Chau Kwok-leung on November 20, the Green Roof occupies about 760 square meters, of which about 43 per cent is a green garden with a gallery and a sitting-out area constructed with recycled plastic materials. The Prefrabicated Extensive Green Roof Tray System and the advanced "Automated Irrigating System" are used for the planting area. Given all these characteristics, the working group had considered beautifying the Green Roof with the most suitable plants in terms of their features, adaptability and seasonal effects. At present, it is complete with Duranta repens Linn, Alternanthera dentate "Ruby", Arachis duranensis, Rhoeo discolour, Cuphea ignea, Duranta repens "variegata", Rhododendron championae Hook and Chinese Banyan. In addition, the Green Roof has a family gardening area for staff and their families to strike a balance between work and life. The area also serves as a podium for healthy lifestyle events. ![]() |
