Cop's Talk

Henry Ford once said, "Coming together is a beginning.  Keeping together is progress.  Working together is success." This meaningful quote might underscore the transformation PI 550-551 has gone through. The trigger of our positive transformation is the memorable experience of the Outdoor Personal Development and Adventure Training (OPDAT).

OPDAT is a comprehensive outward bound training programme, which consists of team building exercises in an outdoor environment and rural activities including rafting, hiking, orienteering, abseiling, and land expedition, all designed for newly-recruited PIs to enhance the skills of managing manpower and resources, problem-solving and decision-making, and leadership capability and personal responsibility; build up confidence, endurance and tolerance; and recognise the significance of teamwork and psychological determination.

During the five days of OPDAT, we experienced hardship and happiness together as a team. We expressed encouragement and support to our squad mates when each of us jumped off the power pole at the Foundation Training Centre. We conquered "Sharp Peak" together and watched out for one another throughout our adventure. It was these experiences that brought us together and taught us that we are not only a team, but also a family. This spirit is echoed by our class motto: "550-551, we're One Team. We're One!"

The transformation of us as PIs since introduction of OPDAT was remarkable. Guided by our instructors, a team of future leaders of the Force have developed their courage and self-confidence by working in an open environment individually. While facing major incidents and arduous tasks during land expedition, we maintained our stamina, demonstrated our decisiveness, discharged our personal responsibilities and continued striving for excellence as a cohesive team.

Our job ahead would be full of challenges, but in the big family of the Force, we will find the support we need.

Probationary Inspector Courses 550-551

(Editor’s note: Besides 36 weeks of training in weapons, law, foot drill and physical fitness, all probationary inspectors (PI) are required to undergo Outdoor Personal Development and Adventure Training for one week. The training aims to develop their potentials as well as team spirit.)
