Mong Kok District (MKDIST) held an Excellence in Policing Award 2012 on November 9. The award scheme aims at paying recognition to officers for their outstanding performances, in line with Kowloon West Region's policy of supporting frontline officers.

Among a large gathering of guests were District Council members, District Fight Crime Committee members, Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents, school principals and representatives from non-government organisations and local organisations. Family members of the award winners were also present to share the joy of the occasion.

Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee Chairman, Mr Chan Siu-tong, Kowloon West Regional Commander Fan Sik-ming and Mong Kok District Commander Peter Cornthwaite officiated at the award presentation ceremony, where 23 officers as well as  representatives from six organisations were presented with certificates.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Fan said MKDIST was successful in motivating different sectors of the community to prevent and tackle crimes with different initiatives, including appointment of Fight Crime Veterans for senior citizens to make a contribution to society by disseminating anti-crime messages to their families, neighbours and peers.

The award scheme comprises nine Best Performance Awards for units and individual officers. Individual officers or teams have gone through assessment of their performances. Besides securing nominations by supervisors and compliments from the general public, they have to gain recognition from their colleagues.
