The Sham Shui Po District Council is fully supporting the Sham Shui Po Bicycle Safe Ride Scheme organised by the Road Safety Team of Traffic Kowloon West (RST T KW). The council has also funded the purchase of reflective vests, headlamps and rear-lamps for bicycles used by employees of fast food shops or restaurants to deliver goods.  The main objective of the scheme is to encourage cyclists in general to wear reflective vests and install lamps in their bikes.

A kick-off ceremony was held at Dragon West Centre, Sham Shui Po on November 23. Officiating at the ceremony were Kowloon West Regional Commander Fan Sik-ming, Mr Ng Kwai-hung, Chairman of the Public Transport Service Committee of Sham Shui Po District Council, Miss Ho Yin-king, Liaison Officer of Sham Shui Po District Office, Mr Chow Chiu-san, Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Road Safety Campaign Committee, and Mr Leung Ching-wah, Senior Assistant Commissioner of West Kowloon Road Safety Patrol.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Fan called on cyclists to remain more conscious of road safety and use protective gears. Following the ceremony, the District Councillors, Road Safety Patrol and RST officers distributed souvenirs to delivery cyclists in Sham Shui Po.
