To engage the elderly in crime prevention, Lantau District (LTDIST) rolled out its "Silver Osprey Programme" in December and recruited 50 senior citizens as "Silver Osprey Ambassadors" to assist in disseminating fight crime messages to the local community.  With the co-operation and support of local non-government organisations (NGO), the programme aims at encouraging the elderly to pay back society by assisting police in creating a safe and harmonious community.

Speaking at the kick-off ceremony of the "Silver Osprey Programme" on December 21, LTDIST Commander Au Yeung Chiu-kong thanked supporters of the project, including Islands District Council Chairman, Mr Chau Yuk-tong, Vice-chairman, Ms Chow Chuen-heung, District Councillors, Fight Crime Committee members, Rural Committee chairmen as the Ambassador-in-Chief of the project, all of whom see the project as a good initiative to enlist public support for crime prevention.

Ms Chow praised LTDIST for engaging the elderly and co-operating with the NGOs, and pledged to continue supporting the project and police.

As a Winter Precaution measure, LTDIST Deputy Commander Chiang Yan-wa led with the "Silver Osprey Ambassadors" and 20 Non-ethnic Chinese Junior Police Call members to distribute fight crime publicity leaflets to the locals, along with District Councillors and Fight Crime Committee members.
