Western District (WDIST) held a ceremony at Ap Lei Chau Community Hall on December 15 to kick off a scheme known as "Crossover of Generation of Fighting Crime". Officiating at the ceremony were WDIST Commander Lam Hiu-tong; Chairman of Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), Mr Thomas Ng; Chairman of Southern District DFCC, Mr Raymond Leung; Chairman of Western District Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary President Council, Mr Baldwin Cheng; and Chairman of the scheme's organising committee, Mr Vincent Wong.

The scheme is a new fight crime publicity initiative taken by WDIST and Western District JPC Honorary President Council with the support of the Hong Kong YWCA Western District Integrated Social Service Centre and the Caritas Community Centre - Aberdeen.  Under the scheme, the elderly and young people in Western District are appointed crime ambassadors and arranged to take part in a variety of activities in schools and elderly centres, including visits, talks and drama performances, to publicise fight crime messages by producing a synergy effect with a "Crossover" approach.

Since its launching in September last year, the scheme has recruited 80 crime ambassadors, comprising 50 senior citizens and 30 JPC members, and run many activities, such as workshops, talks and hiking.

Over 300 guests, including Western District JPC members and representatives from elderly centres and non-government organisations, attended the launching ceremony, where young and senior fight crime ambassadors joined hands in staging various performances, including street dramas on telephone deception, magic, Chinese opera songs and fight crime songs, bringing a joyful time and disseminating fight crime messages to the participants.
