Police College Deputy Director Philip Sham and Superintendent (Management Learning) Gareth Jones recently attended the 4th INTERPOL Group of Experts on Police Training (IGEPT) meeting in Wiesbaden, Germany. Organised by the INTERPOL General Secretariat and supported by the Bundeskriminalamt in Germany, the symposium was attended by over 20 training experts from various law enforcement agencies and international bodies. With "Enhancing International Co-operation in Police Training" as a theme, the meeting provided a platform for sharing international best practices in science, technology, research and innovation for police training. Closely involved in organising the 15th INTERPOL Symposium hosted by the Force in Hong Kong in 2005, Mr Sham was glad to see the developments in police training over the years, particularly in technological advancement and international collaboration. The IGEPT meeting shared knowledge and practical experiences related to police training. At the meeting, Mr Sham spoke of the Forces' experience in the International Executive Development in Policing Programme, a joint initiative taken by the Canadian Police College and the Hong Kong Police College in January last year. In his presentation, Mr Sham highlighted the applicability of using a blended learning model to combine online and classroom learning. The INTERPOL regards this collaboration between two national police colleges as a pioneer success. It also invited Mr Sham to join the IGEPT as a member in recognition of his expertise in police training and the Force's continuous support for international training activities through Police College. ![]() |
