Railway District (RAILDIST) has organised two anti-pickpocketing seminars as part of its Winter Precaution measures in a bid to update frontline officers on the trend and modus operandi of the crime. As the seminars were well received by the participants, RAILDIST organised a third one for over 230 frontline officers at Police Headquarters on December 10.

RAILDIST broadened the contents of the third seminar by adding the topic of crimes against women in the hope the participants would be more capable of preventing and detecting such crimes in crowded environments such as the rail network. Following the seminar, RAILDIST Task Force Station Sergeant Man Tat-fai led the participants to the MTR Admiralty Station, where he gave a demonstration on how to identify suspected pick-pockets and carry out surveillance operations in crowded places.

Opening the third seminar, RAILDIST Commander Tam Chak-hang pointed out that the event was organised in support of the Commissioner's Strategic Directions and Operational Priorities. Quick cash crimes and crimes against women were emphases of RAILDIST's own Action Plan, he stressed.

The seminar also aimed at offering RAILDIST and surface Formations a platform to share criminal intelligence and enhance interoperability. 'In fact, RAILDIST regularly joins land Regions and Districts in mounting anti-crime operations, crime prevention campaigns and exercises on major incident or disasters,' Mr Tam added.

One of the seminar participants, New Territories South Chief Inspector Tang Kwok-hung, pointed out that the seminar gave the management a better idea of the training and tactics frontline officers required in tackling the crimes. Finding the seminar very useful, he called on frontline officers not to miss the ones to be organised by RAILDIST.
