JPS NTS addresses youth problems

The Juvenile Protection Section of New Territories South Region (JPS NTS) is very concerned about the problems involving youths and actively engages with the community in addressing the problems. As the problems have mainly stemmed from lack of communication between parents and their kids, JPS NTS and the Social Welfare Department have jointly run a "Parent-child-link" for years to organise activities for parents and teenagers.

Experts and experienced social workers have given talks to parents, hoping they would understand better the mindset and behavioural problems of teenagers. The speakers took an analytical approach from different perspectives to explain what changes youths might undergo during their "rebellious period" and how to tackle such problems.  Students from Zheng Sheng College were on hand to share their experiences with the audience.

A "Parent-child-link" seminar was held at Tsuen Wan Town Hall on January 12 for around 150 participants, conducted by the Honorary General Secretary of Breakthrough, Dr Choi Yuen-wan. The parents attending the seminar generally realised that it was important to build up mutual trust with their children and give them a free hand to develop their own potentials and interests.

Dr Choi also conducted a discussion and a question-and-answer session on the difficulties parents had experienced and the ways to communicated with their children.
