The Police Sailing Club mourns the passing in November last year of their Treasurer, Senior Police Constable Francis Cheung Yiu-keung. In memory of Francis, the club has issued the following statement.

Francis joined the Force on May 13 1985 and held a variety of posts including PTU, NB and CCB before finally moving to TSWDIV in May of 2003. Despite his medical difficulties Francis maintained a very positive attitude to both his work and personal life and lived life to the full. Not only was he a very competent sailor but he was also a very accomplished Scuba Diving Instructor a sport he actively pursued with his wife, Jenny.

Francis was a key member of the Police Sailing Club Executive Committee and held the very demanding role of Treasurer for over six years. During this time he proved himself to be one of the Clubs most successful treasurers and oversaw the clubs return to financial health. He also played a key role in organising the annual Regatta's and developing the Saturday morning dinghy race series and was a regular representative of the Hong Kong Police Sailing Team in the bi-annual Police World Sailing Championships.

An outstanding sailor, Francis won the Saturday morning race series on a number of occasions and successfully helmed one of the Hong Kong Police Sailing Team in the Police World Championships in Holland and Germany. He had been training hard for the 12th Police World Sailing Championships, held here in Hong Kong between October 21 and 27 and it was extremely sad that he was not able to lead his well drilled team in the event as a result of the onset of illness.

Francis put up an extremely brave fight against the illnesses that he finally succumbed to and will be sorely missed, not only by his colleagues and friends within the Force but also by the many international police sailing friends that he had developed over the years. The thoughts and condolences of his colleagues within the Police Sailing Club go out to his lovely wife Jenny and his family at this very sad time.
