In 2011, over 4,000 members of the Hong Kong Police Volunteer Service Corps (HKPVSC) devoted in average one day to offering community services, chalking up a total of 124,000 service hours. This impressive record has earned for the corps the 2011 Highest Service Hour Award (Public Organisations). HKPVSC Secretariat received the awarded on behalf of the Force in a ceremony organised by Social Welfare Department on December 15 last year.

On the same day, HKPVSC held an Annual General Meeting in Police Sports and Recreation Club, where Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung presented various awards to  volunteer service teams. Commending police volunteers for their selfless contributions to society, Mr Tsang hoped they would continue to serve the community so as to project the Force's image as a caring organisation, and to motivate their families and colleagues to join volunteer services.

At the meeting, representatives from major volunteer service providers introduced their backgrounds and concepts and thanked police volunteers for supporting their volunteer services.

Finally, Assistant Commissioner Lau Yip-shing announced that Chief Superintendent Wong Kwok-wai had taken over the responsibilities of Convenor of the HKPVSC Secretariat. Mr Lau also called on members of the secretariat and police volunteer service teams to pitch in for the promotion of engaging the community.

Force members wishing to join police volunteer service teams may browse the HKPVSC website: www.hkpvs.org or contact the teams direct.
