The Force rolled out the "Living-the-Values (LTV) Workshop" in 1997 in a bid to boost officers' commitment to provide more quality services and meet rising public expectations in a rapidly changing society.

So far, a total of seven "Waves" of the workshop have been held, covering most of the eight Force values.  The value of "Professional Responsibility and Accountability", which was not covered in the previous "Waves", has been identified as the theme of "Wave VIII" through consultation and feedback channels with the endorsement of the Force Committee on Service Quality (FCSQ).

SQW looks for stories

Real stories would arouse interest in discussion, and "storytelling" is considered an effective means to interpret themes and deliver the contents of the workshop to staff.  In collaboration with the Working Group for Strategic Action Plan Project 2.2 "Promoting Professional Responsibility and Accountability", Service Quality Wing (SQW) is organising a competition on "MicroFilm" or microvideo production and script writing on the theme of the "Living-the-Values Wave VIII Workshop", "Professional Responsibility and Accountability".

The competition is open to all Force members, including civilian and auxiliary officers. The selected video-clips and stories will be incorporated into the training package for the "Wave VIII Workshop". Suitable submissions may also be published in the KM Platform or on the Police Social Media Platform.

Acting Chief Superintendent Josephine Lau, Chairperson of the SAP Project 2.2 Working Group, and SWQ Superintendent John Tse encourage frontline officers to submit stories because their input and active participation would ensure "Wave VIII" would reflect their concerns and achievements.

The Force is impressed by the efforts of the teams which participated in the video-clips competition for the "Wave VII Workshop", especially the champion video, "Father's Diary", which has won an international award - Gold Award of the Questar Awards - under the category of Corporate Internal Communications in 2011.

At the Police Staff Suggestions and Motivation Schemes Presentation Ceremony 2013 held on March 12, Police Constable (PC) Lam Yan-chak and PC Au Tak-yan, actor and script-writer of the "Father's Diary", shared their experience in producing the champion video and their feelings after the video was produced.

"Members of the production team see the award as a big honour for them because they have never expected to outdo 100 entries from 10 countries in the Questar Awards, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, the UK, and the USA.  Although only a few members knew how to shoot and edit video clips, the production team overcame all difficulties and challenges, cultivating close friendships during production.  After the production, we still meet on a regular basis and reminisce about the episodes we experienced," they said.

PC Lam was proud that the video had brought the spirit of professionalism to audiences because many of his colleagues always quote his maxim in the video: "The more difficult it is, the more professional we are".

Both PC Lam and PC Au are looking forward to participating in the coming "MicroFilm" competition. Entry form and competition guidelines are available on SQW website and Force Noticeboard.
