New Territories North (NTN) Region has designated debt collection related crimes as one of its operational priorities for this year and formulated a comprehensive plan to strengthen intelligence network, step up enforcement action, and secure public co-operation.

To implement an action plan, NTN Regional Crime Headquarters (CRM NTN) collected criminal intelligence on unlicensed moneylenders and illegal debt collection activities and held crime prevention seminars for security personnel of housing estates in NTN.

In March, CRM NTN held a crime prevention seminar at Fu Shin Estate, Tai Po, for over 30 security guards. At the seminar, police stressed that security management had an important role to play in preventing and deterring crimes, especially illegal debt collection activities.

As a token of gratitude to the Force, Synergis Management Services Limited and the Fu Shin Estate Owners Corporation presented a souvenir to CRM NTN.

After the seminar, CRM NTN Superintendent (Operations) Kerry Carew pointed out that community engagement was one of the key approaches for tackling debt collection related crimes and police would take stringent law enforcement action against loan-sharks and illegal loan intermediaries.
