Under Force posting policy, Junior Police Officers (JPO) of the General Stream, both Uniformed Branch (UB) and Crime, upon promotion, will be posted back to District UB to gain frontline experience. For some JPO promotees, in particular those from crime stream, there is a need to collect new uniform and accoutrement items for returning to UB formations. To provide better support and services to those officers, Personnel Wing and Police Stores jointly introduced a pilot scheme of Uniform Fitting Day in July last year to help promotees collect uniform and accoutrement items before reporting for duty in their new posts. "I worked in CID before my promotion. The new arrangement has certainly made it a lot easier for me to get new uniforms upon promotion. Having been away from UB for years and having no idea of what accoutrement items I would need, I found the new arrangement very helpful to me in working out the items I required and the correct sizes. On the day of reporting for duty, I was able to arrive smartly in new uniform," said Station Sergeant (SSGT) Chung Wai-chi, who attended the Uniform Fitting Day after being promoted from the crime stream in Eastern District. Under the new arrangement, Police Stores in North Point schedule the Uniform Fitting Day for prospective promotees to take measurement and fitting. Officers may opt to collect their uniform and accoutrement items themselves on the appointed date and time, or through the support offices of their formations. Arrangement has also been made with the manufacturer to ensure new sets of epaulettes with UI numbers for SGT promotees are produced and ready for collection prior to their promotion. In view of the positive feedback, the Uniform Fitting Day has been officially implemented since early this year. Shortly after announcement of the list of candidates recommended for promotion to SGT and SSGT, Police Stores invite prospective promotees to attend Uniform Fitting Day according to a schedule. Officers, who are already on uniformed duty and know the sizes of their uniform items, do not have to attend the fitting day. They can liaise directly with their support offices to arrange collection. Those who have any enquiries may contact CIP JPO at 2860-3373. |
