Western District (WDIST) held a fight crime seminar and unveiled a second-generation female "Cardboard Crime Fighter" on February 5. Lending support to the event were over 40 members of Central and Western and Southern District Councils as well as other community leaders. Outlining the crime situation in WDIST at the seminar, District Commander Choy Wise said there was a notable drop in the overall crime figures in 2012, the lowest in the past ten years. Detective Inspector Yvonne Leung, Officer-in-Charge of WDIST's Anti-triad Section, then presented the figures of different crimes, with emphasis on the modus operandi and preventive measures in respect of deceptions and technology crimes. She also took the opportunity to introduce the mobile application launched by the Force recently. During the question-and-answer session, Mr Choy and officers had a good exchange of views with the participants. Following the session was an unveiling ceremony to mark the launch of the female "Cardboard Crime Fighter". This cardboard cop, together with its male version introduced earlier on, will be placed at strategic locations to remind the public to remain more vigilant to crimes. Mr Choy wrapped up the seminar by expressing his appreciation to the local community for their ongoing support for preserving stability and security. WDIST officers would continue to attend local meetings to report on the latest law and order condition and collect views on crime prevention, he added. ![]() |
