Fifty-two new "Zero S ZF-9" electric motorcycles will be delivered to frontline officers between May and July for daily operations. The "Zero" is the third generation electric motorcycle in the Force after the Vectrix Maxi Scooter and the Brammo Enertia Plus LE purchased in 2008 and 2012 respectively.

The "Zero" motorcycle is manufactured in the USA and is powered by a brushless motor and a single lithium-ion battery. It has a top speed of 121 km per hour and a range of 183 km on a single charging. Fully charging the battery will take about four and half hours and charging can be made any time without damage to the battery.

The "Zero" will supplement the existing motorcycle fleet of Honda CB250 and CB300 for divisional and District Traffic Team patrols and traffic enforcement. Compact design and simple operation make the "Zero" ideal for use in urban areas.

To ensure proper use of the "Zero", the local agent gave a briefing and demonstration for 42 officers from frontline units on April 25. The officers will briefed their colleagues after the "Zero" is delivered.

Sergeant Yuen Kin-keung of Traffic Hong Kong Island, who tried out the "Zero" during the demonstration, commented: "The Zero is smooth in making a start and the height of the seat is suitable and comfortable. It is particularly stable in making turns. Overall it is easy to control."
