The Chairman of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Security, Mr Ip Kwok-him, panel members and other LegCo Councillors, accompanied by staff of Security Bureau, visited Marine Region on June 10 to get first hand information on marine policing.

In the first part of the visit, the party boarded a Police Launch to Joss House Bay to watch a demonstration by Small Boat Division on high-speed interception of fast moving targets at sea. Small Boat Division Superintendent Barry Cheung also introduced the characteristics of the Police launches used by the Division, including "Damen Cougartek High Speed Interceptor".

The second part of the visit was a tour of the Regional Headquarters, where Senior Superintendent (SSP) (Operations) Terry Fung gave a presentation on marine policing, security arrangements and operational strategy. He also discussed the trend of smuggling at sea and illegal immigrants with the party.

After the tour, the party proceeded to the Regional Command and Control Centre, where SSP Fung introduced the concept of Versatile Marine Police Response and the functions of the Central Command System, including Digital Radar Security.
