The Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories South (RCPO NTS) held a Regional Crime Prevention Day on June 21 to alert members of the public to phone scams.

On that day, over 100 officers, including those from Police Community Relations Offices in Kwai Tsing District, Sha Tin District, Tsuen Wan District and Lantau District, Patrol Sub-unit and Police Tactical Unit, together with District Council members, District Fight Crime Committee members and senior members of Sha Tin District's "Silver Hawk Volunteer" scheme, handed out publicity leaflets on prevention of phone scams in shopping centres, markets, parks and MTR stations.

In addition, a talk was given at three elderly centres to brief the elderly on the latest modus operandi of deception, and visits were paid to over 90 moneychangers in the region to alert them to suspicious money remittances.
