The Peak is a populous tourist spot, where cases of over-charging of taxi passengers have been reported. Meanwhile, the summer vacation gives culprits an opportunity to break into the houses there while their owners are outside of town. In view of these situations, the Police Community Relations Office of Central District and Peak Sub-Division mounted a beat crime drive in conjunction with Home Affairs Department, Central & Western District Fight Crime Committee and Central District Junior Police Call Honorary President Council on the Peak on August 24 in a bid to make tourists, residents on the Peak and property management personnel more conscious of crime prevention.

This publicity drive began with an introduction of the crime trend and police deployment by Acting Central District Commander Chan Yee-lai and Peak Sub-Divisional Commander Ku Siu-fai. After the introduction, officers distributed anti-quick cash crime souvenirs and anti-taxi overcharging leaflets to tourists outside Peak Galleria and Peak Tower.

The Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Prevention Office also introduced home security measures to the property management personnel and looked forward to working more closely with them in preventing crimes.
