Two fatal traffic accidents in Western District

Police are investigating two fatal traffic accidents in which a 58-year-old woman and an eight-year-old expatriate girl were killed in Western District today (January 10).

The first case occurred shortly after 11 am when a public light bus driven by a 37-year-old man was travelling eastbound of Praya, Kennedy Town. Upon reaching the junction with Holland Street, it reportedly knocked down a 58-year-old woman who was crossing the road.

Sustaining serious head injuries, the woman was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where she was certified dead at 3.44 pm.

Another case occurred shortly after 2 pm when a public bus driven by a 48-year-old man was travelling along eastbound Catchick Street. Upon reaching 66 Catchick Street, it reportedly knocked down an eight-year-old expatriate girl who was crossing the road.

Sustaining serious injuries on her body, the girl was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where she was certified dead at 3.19 pm.

Investigations by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island, are proceeding.
