Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 467 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 111 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7 pm today (January 17) and a total of 174 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 340 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 127 for other traffic offences.

One hundred and eleven pedestrians and 371 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 3 042 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island last year.

Of them, 51.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
