Duo jailed for credit card fraud

Two men aged 46 and 47 respectively were convicted of offences relating to forged credit cards and were each sentenced to an imprisonment of five years and four months at the Court of First Instance today (January 25).

The court heard that officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau mounted an intelligence-led operation in January last year against a counterfeit credit card manufacturing syndicate in Chuk Yuen South Estate.

Raids in two different premises in a building in Chuen Yuen South Estate resulted in the arrest of the duo with 33 forged credit cards, 780 base cards, 1 013 sets of credit card numbers and equipment used for the production of forged credit cards were seized.

Further enquiries revealed that 25 out of the 1 013 sets of credit card account numbers had been fraudulently used in Hong Kong and overseas involving the loss of HK$0.69 million. It is believed that the potential loss in this fraud scam for the 1 013 sets of credit card accounts involved is etimated to be HK$9 million.

The duo were charged with one count of conspiracy to make false instrument and the sentences were meted out today.
