Duo jailed for trafficking in dangerous drugs

A 29-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were sentenced to five years' and five years and four months' imprisonment respectively for trafficking in dangerous drugs at the Court of First Instance today (January 27).

The court heard that an intelligence-based operation was mounted by the Narcotics Bureau to trace the source of drug supplied in the vicinity of Lan Kwai Fong, Central in November 2004.

Police officers then carried out a number of controlled buy transactions involving the sale of cocaine by the 29-year-old defendant. The transactions were successfully completed by an undercover Police Officer.

On November 30, 2004, the 29-year-old defendant was seen entering a hotel on Hennessy Road, Wan Chai. The 46-year-old woman was then seen entering the hotel room of the man and handed a plastic bag to the man. The bag was later found to contain 128 gram of cocaine.

Officers of NB immediately raided the hotel room and arrested the 29-year-old man whereas the 46-year-old woman was arrested on the ground floor of the hotel.

The defendants were subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs on December 1, 2004. Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges and the sentences were meted out at the Court of First Instance today.
