Fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Sha Tin early this (February 22) morning in which a 44-year-old man was killed and a 28-year-old man was injured.

At about 6 pm, a private car was travelling along the northbound Fo Tan Road while a light goods vehicle (LGV) was travelling on the opposite carriageway. The private car reportedly collided with the LGV at the junction with Shan Mei Street while it was making a right turn wrongly.

After the impact, the LGV sideturned at the junction of Fo Tan Road and Shan Mei Street. The driver of the LGV was trapped inside the compartment and was rescued by the firemen.

Both the 44-year-old LGV driver and the 28-year-old private car driver were rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital where the 44-year-old man was certified dead at about 6.35 am.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic New Territories South are underway.
