Appeal for information on fatal vessel collision case

Police today (March 7) appealed to members of the public to provide information on a fatal vessel collision case off Kau Yi Chau on March 5 evening.

At around 7 pm on March 5, Police received a report that a man was shouting for help in the water off north east of Kau Yi Chau. Upon arrival at the scene, Marine Police rescued the 60-year-old local man and sent him to Queen Mary Hospital, but he was certified dead before arrival at the hospital.

Initial enquiry revealed that the man together with another local man, aged 47, were on board a speedboat at the material time. When reaching northeast Kau Yi Chau, the speedboat reportedly collided with an unknown vessel. After the collision, the duo on board the speedboat fell into the sea. The 47-year-old man has yet to be located.

Investigations by District Crime Squad of Marine Port are proceeding.
