Opening of NTS Regional Police Headquarters

The opening of New Territories South (NTS) Regional Police Headquarters and Operational Base served as another milestone in the history of the NTS Region, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lee Ming-kwai today (March 8).

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Regional Headquarters, Mr Lee said: "This striking and magnificent building epitomises the Force's progression towards an ultra-modern organisation with its commitment to the introduction of new technology, enhanced professionalism and greater efficiency enabling us to provide high quality Police services to the public."

"In addition to maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest and most stable cities in the world, maximising management and operational efficiency is always in the forefront of our minds. To achieve this objective with the establishment of the new headquarters in NTS Region is a further step forward," he added.

The formations and units now accommodated in the new building were previously located in five locations spread throughout the region. The new headquarters provides adequate working accommodation with-state-of-the-art information technology and communications facilities and in-built design flexibility to allow for future change.

Situated in Tsuen Wan, the building project adopted the innovative "Design and Build" concept for construction, facilitating better communication between different formations and enhancing administrative efficiency. It also houses an advanced Indoor Weapons Training Complex and Junior Police Officers' Continuation Training facilities which would ensure the continued competence and professionalism of junior officers, enabling them to effectively carry out their duties and protect citizens.

In addition to accommodating a fitness room, a resource centre and a restaurant, the 15-storey purpose-built complex is fitted with a wide range of energy conservation and environmental design features such as efficient water-cooled air conditioning system as well as motion sensor devices to provide automated lighting control in offices.

Officiating at the ceremony, NTS Regional Commander, Mr Tang How-kong said that the new headquarters not only enabled NTS police districts to greatly enhance the provision of efficient and professional services to the public, but also provided a platform for the future development of policing in the Region.

Also present at today's opening ceremony were the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Yue Chi-hang; Managing Director of Hip Hing Construction Company Limited, Dr Tong Yuk-lun; and Chairman of Simon Kwan and Associates Ltd., Dr Simon Kwan.
