Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 594 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 23 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 11 pm yesterday (March 14) and a total of 168 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 391 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 203 for other traffic offences.

Seventy-three pedestrians and 242 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 461 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to February this year.

Of them, 58.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
