Woman jailed for custody of counterfeit notes

A 27-year-old woman was sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment at the District Courts today (April 19) for possession of counterfeit notes and dangerous drugs.

The court heard that acting on information, the Kowloon City Special Duty Squad mounted an operation to search a unit on Waterloo Road in Kowloon City on August 6, 2005. A 27-year-old woman was found possessing forty nine counterfeit $500 banknotes and a small quantity of dangerous drugs inside the unit. Following a further search, a small amount of dangerous drugs, 13 tablets of Zopiclone (Part one poison) and some paraphernalia suitable for the inhalation of dangerous drugs were seized.

The woman was arrested and the case was later taken over by the Commercial Crime Bureau for further investigation. She was subsequently charged with one count each of custody of counterfeit notes, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of Part One poison and possession of apparatus fit and intended for inhalation of dangerous drugs.

She pleaded guilty to the offences in the Distric Court on March 30, 2006 and the sentence was handed down today.
