Fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long

Police are investigating a traffic accident in which a 25-year-old man was killed in Yuen Long this (April 23) morning.

Shortly after 5 am, a taxi driven by a 40-year-old-man, a public light bus (PLB) driven by a 57-year-old man and a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 25-year-old man were travelling in sequence along Castle Peak Road towards Hung Tin Road. On reaching the junction with Hung Tin Road, the taxi and the PLB stopped in front of a traffic light post while the LGV reportedly could not stop on time and rammed the PLB which then bumped into the taxi. The LGV subsequently hit the kerb on the left.

After the impact, the driver of the LGV was trapped inside the vehicle and later rescued by firemen.

All the three drivers and two PLB passengers comprising a 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital. The driver of the LGV was certified dead at 5.40 am.

Investigations will be taken over by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic New Territories North.
