Two Mainlanders jailed for counterfeit banknotes offence

A 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, holders of two-way permit, were each sentenced to two years' imprisonment at the District Court today (May 2) after being convicted of custody or control of counterfeit banknotes.

The court heard that Police Commercial Crime Bureau conducted an intelligence-led operation targeting counterfeit banknotes activities at Lo Wu Boundary Crossing Point on October 4, 2005.

Police officers intercepted the defendants at the Boundary Crossing Point. A total of 101 pieces of counterfeit HK$500 banknotes were found in their possession.

They were subsequently arrested and later charged with custody or control of counterfeit banknotes.

Both of them pleaded guilty to the charges at the District Court on April 18, 2006 and the sentence was handed down today.
