Man jailed for counterfeit notes related offences

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment at District Court today (August 11) after being convicted of counterfeit notes related offences.

The court heard that officers from Police Commercial Crime Bureau raided a residential unit on Tung Ming Street, Kwun Tong on January 27 this year and found the defendant inside. Police seized one counterfeit HK$500 banknote and three knives and a bottle of containing a small quantity of liquid "ice".

Further enquiries revealed that the defendant had used two counterfeit HK$500 to make taxi journeys in Mongkok.

He was charged on January 28 with custody of counterfeit notes with intent, passing counterfeit notes, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of dangerous drugs.

The defendant was convicted of the offences and the sentence was handed down today.
