Opening of Marine District Headquarters and Operational Base

The inauguration of Marine Outer Waters District Headquarters and Marine North Division Operational Base Complex in Ma Liu Shui opened a new chapter in the history of development of the Marine Region, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Fung Siu-yuen said today (August 21).

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new complex, Mr Fung said: "In recent years, neighbouring ports trading with Hong Kong have been expanding and maritime transport and logistics have been booming. In order to keep abreast of the times, the Police Force must, in its development strategy, upgrade aspects of its infrastructure in various areas and renew its existing hardware when necessary."

He said that the location of the new complex had been used as a pier for ferries until it was converted into a makeshift base 14 years ago.

"Despite such temporary facilities, my colleagues who were posted here through all seasons worked hard to overcome the difficulties posed by the shortcomings of the building environment, as they maintained their services to the public. Their professionalism of such a high order surely merits praise," he added.

Noting that the complex took four years from conceptualisation to completion, Mr Fung said that it was the fruit of the painstaking labour of all the parties concerned. He thanked them for their effort to create the complex as well as a comfortable and safe working environment.

Following the completion of the complex, the Outer Waters District Headquarters and all associated personnel are now housed under one roof with the Marine North Division. The integration enhances both internal communication and administrative efficiency.

The design of the complex is user friendly oriented. In addition to a high usable floor area ratio, it also boosts compliance with green principles and a greatly improved working environment.

It also accommodates a well-equipped maintenance workshop which provides quality support and logistic services to the Marine Police craft and help to further enhance the efficiency of the fleet.

Also present at today's ceremony were the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Yue Chi-hang and Regional Commander Marine, Mr Au Hok-lam.
