Fatal traffic accident in Western District

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Western District this (August 31) morning in which a 74-year-old woman was killed and three other women, aged between 72 and 90, were injured.

At about 9.30 am, a light goods vehicle driven by a 69-year-old man was stationed along the right side of eastbound Third Street near Eastern Street. While the driver was uploading goods at the tail platform, the light goods vehicle reportedly reversed to the pavement outside No 9 Third Street and knocked down four female pedestrians. The light goods vehicle subsequently rammed onto a wall before it stopped on the pavement.

Three of the injured persons, aged between 72 and 90, were rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where the 74-year-old woman was certified dead at 10.09 am. Another injured person, a 74-year-old woman, went to Queen Mary Hospital by herself later.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team, Traffic Hong Kong Island are proceeding.
