Shooting in Aberdeen

Police are investigating an open fire case in which a 44-year-old station sergeant was shot by an off-duty police constable on Aberdeen Praya Road this (September 6) evening.

Shortly after 6.27 pm, Police received a report that a station sergeant was being shot at his right thigh inside a subway near Aberdeen Praya Road by another 39-year-old off-duty Police constable who was reported missing in Tin Wan, Aberdeen this evening.

Initial enquiries revealed that the off-duty police constable was discharged from the Queen Mary Hospital accompanied by his family members at noon today. When they were returning home onboard a taxi, the off-duty officer suddenly alighted the taxi at Ka Wo Street in Tin Wan and left his family members behind.

The family members of the off-duty officer reported the case to Aberdeen Police Station at about 2.15pm.

At about 6.30 pm a patrolling station sergeant and a police constable met the missing officer in Tsung Man Street, Aberdeen. Upon seeing the two patrolling officers, the off-duty police constable fled immediately.

The two patrolling officers finally intercepted the off-duty officer and they put up a struggle inside the subway near Aberdeen Praya Road. During the struggle, the off-duty officer snatched the revolver of the police constable and fired one shot at the station sergeant.

Sustaining injury to his right thigh, the station sergeant was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment.

The off-duty police constable was arrested at scene and was taken to the Aberdeen Police Station for further enquiries.

Investigations by District Crime Squad of Western are proceeding.
