Woman sentenced for custody of counterfeit notes with intent

A 23-year-old woman was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment at the District Court today (October 5) for custody of counterfeit notes with intent.

The court heard that on April 19 this year, Police officers from the Commercial Crime Bureau mounted an intelligence-led operation against counterfeit currency activities in Sham Shui Po area.

At about 9 am, officers intercepted the woman, a two-way permit holder, at the ground floor at 218 Fuk Wing Street. Upon search, officers found 60 pieces of counterfeit HK$500 banknotes wrapped in a brown envelop in the woman's handbag. She was then arrested and later charged.

The sentence was handed down in the District Court today.
